The Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce named Black Star Fund’s CEO and Chairman, Kwame Anku, Entrepreneur of the Year.
The Annual Dinner & Business Awards first hosted in 1895 is the Metro Chamber’s longest-running event. Since its inception, business leaders, community stakeholders and members come together annually to salute board leadership, recognize the changemakers in our region and celebrate the Capital Region.
Kwame Anku is the Founding Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Black Star Fund, an early-stage venture capital fund. Black Star Fund invests in innovators who see new enterprise as the gateway to a more abundant, balanced, and productive world. The Fund has assets under management of $12 million with 19 portfolio companies. Prior to the Black Star Fund, Kwame Anku was the Principal of the Black Angel Tech Fund, a pioneering investment fund he co-founded that focused on capitalizing black technology entrepreneurs.
He was named “One of the Top 25 Black Venture Capitalists to Watch in 2018” by Pitchbook. Anku has worked extensively in business development and media marketing blending entrepreneurship, social impact, and corporate engagement for over two decades. Anku entered the tech industry after being personally recruited by the late legendary rock star Prince to develop his mobile app.
