ELNAK Recycle announced as part of the winners of AfDB’s Fashionomics Africa Incubator Porgram
The Ghana-based textile recycling company was among the winners of the Fashionomics Africa Incubator. Led by Emma Forson ELNAK Recycle provides recycling, upcycling and donation services for businesses and households in Ghana.
The company helps to prevent fabric offcuts/deadstock and secondhand clothing from ending up in landfills or being burnt. The company repurposes these textiles sourced into reusable items thus limiting the negative environmental impact of textile waste and contributing to saving the planet by encouraging a circular fashion economy.
The Fashionomics Incubator and Accelerator programmes is part of the African Development Bank’s initiatives to increase Africa’s participation in the global textile, apparel, and accessories value chains by supporting and equipping fashion entrepreneurs with the necessary business skills, access to markets, and financing to scale up their businesses.
After a competitive 12-week Incubation program, ELNAK Recycle and Woow Me Jewel, a jewellery company that creates unique pieces made from locally sourced materials founded by Mecktilder Mchomvu from Tanzania were declared winners.
The winners of the Acceleration program include Ms Marion, a fashion brand led by Selma Belkhodja that focuses on creating timeless and stylish pieces for women and Eloli, a company founded by Fese Ndumbe that creates high-quality clothing made from locally sourced materials. The winners will receive 20,000 USD each to scale up their operations.
