In collaboration with the Pharmacy Council, the government launched the Ghana National Electronic Pharmacy Platform (GNEPP) after a successful pilot, which began in July 2022.
The GNEPP is a Pharmacy Council-led platform with support from various health-focused state institutions such as the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, the NHIA, the FDA, the Medical and Dental Council, HeFRA, the Ghana Nursing and Midwifery Council, Allied Health Professions Council. The platform facilitates safe and secure access to medications and pharmaceutical services in Ghana from internet-based applications such as online pharmacies, websites, social media and e-commerce platforms whilst protecting the public.
The platform allows the general public to order medicines conveniently via phones or computers. This enables access to rural areas with a limited presence of retail pharmacies. Through the platform, patients and clients can consult pharmacy care providers, allowing for value-added information such as drug interactions, side effects, medicine reminders, and information on cheaper substitutes.
