To strengthen Ghana’s sustainable research and innovation ecosystem, the RISA Fund has announced its second partnership phase with Impact Investing Ghana. The project began in January 2023 and aims to scale up the infrastructure established in Phase I and increase funding, skills, and knowledge of key players in Ghana’s research and innovation sector.
The project’s first phase established critical research and innovation infrastructure, including a deal-sourcing platform, the Ghana Enterprise Support Organisation, and the Ghana Impact Investing Research Industry Collaborative. Additionally, the project brought together 25 institutions to collaborate on research and industry initiatives.
In Phase II, the project aims to establish a $75 million fund-of-funds, increase investments in local funders and enterprises, and create sustainable structures for the Ghana Impact Investing Research Industry Collaborative. The project will also provide resources to enhance the capacity of the Ghana Enterprise Support Organisation and support establishing a digital platform for research to increase access to financing.
Key deliverables include setting up a strong local fund-of-fund manager, baseline research on venture capital and private equity in Ghana, and resources to improve the quality of programmes offered by the Ghana Enterprise Support Organisation.
