To promote sexual health and birth care knowledge among Eritrean youth in the Netherlands, Leti Arts, the Ghana-based gaming startup, and 8D Games, a Netherlands studio, have partnered to launch  a new game, “Shkorey.”

This game is designed to tackle the stigma surrounding sex education in African societies and provides a culturally sensitive digital environment for freely discussing the topic. The game also guides users to local healthcare service providers and other relevant sources of information.

“Shkorey” is available on the Google Play store and features interactive storytelling with five main characters, each facing challenges the player helps solve. Through the game, players learn about the human body, safe sex, pre-conception, pregnancy, and raising a young family.

The game was developed with Eritrean youth, healthcare professionals, and policymakers. With the rising prevalence of inappropriate sexual behaviours among adolescents, the power of technological applications to appeal to digital natives is becoming increasingly crucial.

Leti Arts, the games and digital comics studio based in Ghana and Kenya, has made meaningful African video games since 2009. The founder, Eyram Tawia, was adjudged the Games Industry Africa Icon in 2021. The studio publications include Africa’s Legends, My Jorley, Puzzle Scout, Space Junk, Karmzah Run and Sweave.
