Tullow Oil has entered into a multi-year partnership under its new “Accelerating Progress Through Partnerships” community strategy with the Innohub Foundation to support budding agriculture ventures in Ghana.
Being implemented by Innohub, the Tullow AgriVentures Programme (TAP) will identify and support entrepreneurs in setting up and growing their businesses. TAP aims to generate approximately 600 new agriculturally linked ventures and support 30 existing businesses to grow and create more than 1,500 jobs.
TAP is designed along two pathways: the New Venture Creation (to create new agribusinesses) and the Venture Growth Module (to support existing agribusinesses to scale). The program will provide business development training and support, technical training, and smart investments to Small and Growing Businesses in the agribusiness value chain to foster job creation and economic development.
Funding support will cover setup and initial running costs to help newly established ventures scale the “valley of death” stage, where many new and even good businesses die because they run out of money.
The programme’s target value chains include Primary Production, Value-addition/Processing, AgriTech, Packaging and Access to Markets.
Speaking on the partnership, Nelson Amo, Chief Executive Officer, Innohub, said: “Our partnership with Tullow is an example of an innovative and long-term local economic development programme that truly delivers shared prosperity, and with the support from Tullow, we can expand our reach across Ghana to enhance employability and entrepreneurship for young people; widen the talent pool needed for the growth of small businesses; and contribute to the expansion and development of the capacity and capabilities of local companies to generate higher levels of jobs, economic growth and prosperity.”
