Japanese electronics giant Sony has appointed Kwame Kwarteng as Investment Manager for the Sony Innovation Fund: Africa, a key initiative aimed at supporting Africa’s entertainment start-ups. In this role, Kwame will identify and manage investment opportunities that drive innovation across the African continent.

Kwame brings extensive experience in venture capital, asset management, and business planning. Prior to joining Sony, he was an Investor at Enza Capital, where he focused on empowering early-stage African companies. He also played a pivotal role at Chandaria Capital, where he expanded the firm’s portfolio from 15 to 35 deals and implemented key operational improvements.

In addition to his investment work, Kwame co-founded St. Michael’s Hostel in Accra, Ghana, where he has served as Director since 2017, leading marketing and building one of Tema’s top student residences.

The Sony Innovation Fund: Africa, launched in 2023, is part of Sony’s global effort to support innovation. With a $10 million initial allocation, the fund invests in seed to early-stage entertainment start-ups in Africa, offering access to Sony-owned technologies and collaboration opportunities. Earlier this year, the fund made its inaugural investment in Carry1st, Africa’s leading game publisher and digital commerce platform.
