SimuLab and Science Safari, a virtual science lab platform developed by OGames Studio, have been crowned winners of the African Union Education Innovation Awards at the recent Africa Skills Week held in Accra, Ghana.
Led by Onyx Terchie-Duku, the platforms aim to enhance STEM education for students in under-resourced schools across Africa. They allow students to perform virtual experiments in chemistry, physics, and biology directly from their phones, making science education more accessible and engaging.
The second-place prize of $15,000 was awarded to Storytelling and Digital Tech for Change, a Tanzanian initiative driving social behavioral change. The third prize of $10,000 went to NABU Multilingual App and Web Reader, which promotes children’s literacy by offering stories in mother-tongue languages.
The Innovating Education in Africa program, a flagship initiative of the African Union, seeks to identify, promote, and support the systemic adoption of impactful education innovations across the continent.
