Merdeo Foods, a B2B farm-direct platform that connects farmers with restaurants and food businesses, has been selected as part of the inaugural cohort of the Startup Discovery Africa Venture Studio programme.
Founded in 2022, Merdeo Foods leverages innovative technology to aggregate fresh produce from smallholder farmers through its decentralized cold storage network. By utilizing this model, the company addresses two critical challenges: reducing post-harvest losses experienced by farmers and delivering fresh produce to restaurants and food businesses at farm-gate prices. This approach not only enhances farmers’ income but also ensures that businesses receive high-quality products efficiently.
The Startup Discovery Africa Venture Studio is a nine-month program offering hands-on support to selected startups. Participants gain access to leading software tools, tailored mentorship, and technical, commercial, and impact-focused guidance to help them execute their strategic roadmaps. The programme also connects ventures with customers, partners, and a global network of investors to accelerate their growth.
The studio is supported by Sahara Impact Ventures and the Autodesk Foundation and focuses on equipping, nurturing, and funding entrepreneurs who are building climate adaptation and mitigation solutions. Its mission is to drive a just transition in West Africa by fostering innovative, impactful ventures that contribute to climate resilience and sustainability.
