Lightrock Capital, the global impact investment platform backed by the Princely Family of Liechtenstein, has appointed Elizabeth Biney-Amissah as a Partner as it deepens its commitment to energy and climate-related investments across Africa. With nearly two decades of experience spanning energy access, generation, and transition across the Global South, Biney-Amissah brings deep expertise to the firm’s growing Africa strategy.
Announcing the appointment on LinkedIn, she stated: “I am thrilled to share that I have officially joined Lightrock as a Partner, focusing on advancing our energy and climate initiatives. This role is more than a title — it embodies nearly 18 years of working across energy access, generation, and transition in the Global South and reflects my deep commitment to sustainable development and impactful change in emerging markets.”
Biney-Amissah joins Lightrock from E3 Capital, where she led investments in decarbonized, decentralized, and digitalized smart energy and infrastructure technology in Sub-Saharan Africa. She led a landmark investment round in Nuru, a catalytic off-grid utility in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), amongst other deals in agritech and commercial and industrial solar. She is also the Founding Managing Partner of TBrA X Ventures, an investment and advisory firm part of The Boardroom Africa (TBrA) Group.
Earlier in her career, Biney-Amissah worked as Business Development Director at Globeleq, working on large-scale Independent Power Projects. She also held a key leadership role at EleQtra Ltd/InfraCo Africa, part of the Private Infrastructure Development Group, where she led the development of energy and transport infrastructure projects in West Africa. Notably, she was pivotal in developing Ghana’s first commercially financed IPP—the Cenpower Kpone project, a 350-megawatt combined-cycle gas turbine power plant.
With her appointment, Lightrock continues to expand its presence in Africa, focusing on Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa. It actively invests in mission-driven, growth-stage companies aligned with its impact themes: People, Planet, and Productivity. Lightrock’s Africa portfolio includes the digital lending platform 4G Capital, the asset financing platform M-KOPA, the payment services unicorn Moniepoint, and the electric mobility company MAX.
