Ghana and the United Arab Emirates have signed a $1 billion memorandum of understanding to establish the Ghana-UAE Innovations and Technology Hub in Ningo-Prampram. The initial phase involves developing a 25-square-kilometre site, provided by the Ghanaian government, to serve as a regional base for artificial intelligence engineering, business process outsourcing, knowledge process outsourcing, and data generation tailored to Africa’s needs. Fully funded by the UAE’s Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, the project aims to attract over 11,000 global companies, including tech giants like Microsoft, Oracle, Meta, IBM, and Alphabet, positioning Ghana as a leading centre for digital transformation and emerging technologies.

Funding

NewGas secures $18M to scale access to clean cooking fuel in Ghana.

NewGas Cylinder Bottling has raised a senior debt facility of $18.2 million from the Africa Go Green Fund and the Spark+ Africa Fund. The syndicated loan will finance the engineering, construction, and commissioning of NewGas’s liquified petroleum gas bottling plant in Tema and the procurement of cylinders required for LPG distribution.

NewGas is transforming Ghana’s cooking fuel landscape with its newly developed LPG bottling plant and a robust distribution network. With the funding, NewGas is well-positioned to facilitate widespread access to cleaner, more affordable cooking energy.

Untapped Global backs Pobad to accelerate EV adoption in Ghana.

Untapped Global, the smart asset financing investor, has invested in Pobad International, a dynamic mobility startup revolutionizing the adoption of electric vehicles since its founding in 2017. The funding will enable Pobad to finance 3 additional charging stations to expand their growing infrastructure network.

Pobad offers charging solutions to clients to alleviate range anxiety and reduce the high upfront costs associated with electric mobility. Additionally, it sells a range of new and pre-owned electric vehicles to make electric mobility more accessible. Since its founding, Pobad has installed three charging stations, which now cater to approximately 70% of Accra’s existing EVs. The company has also partnered with Shell Ghana, with plans to install charging stations at over 150 petrol stations nationwide.

ClimateTech

Electro Recycling Ghana partners with Swisscontact to tackle e-waste through its SesaTec hub model.

Electro Recycling Ghana (ERG), Ghana’s only EPA-licensed e-waste recycling company, has partnered with Swisscontact Ghana to pilot SesaTec, a modular e-waste hub initiative designed to advance safe recycling, youth employment, and green energy access. As part of the model, repurposed standard 3×3 meter shipping containers are turned into solar-powered, digitally connected hubs that serve as collection points, repair workshops, and affordable sales outlets for refurbished electronics.

Swisscontact  Ghana is supporting the pilot by providing 12 containers of electronic waste to kick-start the initiative and help test the viability and scalability of the model, ensuring the approach is not just environmentally sound but also socially and economically sustainable. The first phase will focus on suburban areas such as Madina, Nkoranza, and Akropong. Each container will create four local jobs in the sales, installation, and maintenance of electronic and solar equipment.

Aldin Cycles launches bicycle sharing service to provide sustainable transportation for students.

Aldin Cycles, Ghana’s first campus-based bike-sharing platform, has officially launched on the University of Ghana campus to provide students and staff with a sustainable, efficient, and health-conscious transportation alternative. Founded in 2023 by Rene Atiso and  Husamal Din Ahmed, the startup offers a fleet of bicycles equipped with solar-powered lights, helmets, and reflectors, all accessible via a user-friendly mobile app. Users can locate and unlock bikes by scanning QR codes, promoting quick and convenient travel across campus. By integrating eco-friendly transport with digital innovation, Aldin Cycles aims to reduce carbon emissions, alleviate campus congestion, and encourage a more active lifestyle among its users.

Talent

thedsgnjunkies kick off the 2025 Design Your Greatness tour to nurture the next generation of designers.

Thedsgnjunkies, the growing community for designers in Ghana and Africa, kicked off its annual  Design Your Greatness campus tour at the University of Cape Coast. The annual tour aims to equip university students with the tools and confidence to lead creative projects and pursue careers in design and technology. The program will be extended to other institutions, including UMaT, KNUST, UG, and Ashesi.

With support from global partners like the Interaction Design Foundation and bold initiatives like HealthHack (in collaboration with the Ghana HealthTech Alliance), students will receive access to premium learning resources, mentorship, hackathons, and real-world opportunities beyond the classroom. The tour will culminate in December at FiDCon 2025—Ghana’s largest design conference—where students from across the tour will gather to showcase their work, meet industry leaders, and celebrate the community they’ve built together.
