Kingsley Abrokwah, former CEO of Ghana’s leading social commerce platform Verifibuy, revealed in a tweet that he’s taken on a new challenge as Head of Innovation at insurance giant Old Mutual Ghana.

His role of digitising informal markets in Ghana and Nigeria.

Abrowah capped a successful run as CEO by stepping down in April. During his leadership, Verifibuy (formerly Kudigo) carved a niche by providing scalable tech solutions specifically designed for the unique needs of African businesses. Under Abrowah’s guidance, the company remained committed to digitizing informal retail, empowering countless businesses with the tools they need to thrive in today’s increasingly digital economy.

Under his leadership, the company secured close to $1 million in funding from prestigious investors like Google Black Founders Fund, Catalyst Fund, and Founders Factory Africa.  This fueled impressive growth, with a 54.14% CAGR revenue growth between 2019 and 2022. Revenue surged from $0.49 million in 2019 to $1.78 million, earning the company a well-deserved spot on the 2024 Financial Times Africa Fastest Growing Companies list.

The Next Chapter: Leading innovation at a Corporate. 

As the Head of Innovation, he will lead the implementation of Old Mutual’s Innovation strategy to identify promising opportunities and develop partnerships in various tech sectors like Fintech, Insurtech, Investech, Edutech, and Agritech.

He will also manage the Old Mutual Innovation Hub, fostering a culture of innovation within the Fintech business by engaging industry players, conducting workshops, and showcasing new technologies to uncover opportunities and drive product and service innovation.

Furthermore, Abrowah will play a key role in partnership management and commercialization. He will establish and manage strategic partnerships with various entities like mobile network operators, remittance partners, and financial institutions. Additional duties will  include negotiating revenue models, ensuring successful implementation of these partnerships, and ultimately driving growth and innovation within the Fintech business.
