Medpharma secures undisclosed investment from Sahara Impact Ventures

Ghanaian healthtech startup Medpharma has raised an undisclosed funding round from Sahara Impact Ventures. Founded by Stephen Yaw Asamoah and Richard Appiah Otoo in 2019, MedPharma is digitising healthcare delivery by aggregating providers, pharmacies, and medical facilities into a single connected platform

Through the MedPharma app, patients can consult doctors virtually, order medications in real time, and access nearby facilities without friction. Its e-consultation service, WeCare, enables users to book appointments via video or chat, while an integrated system allows secure storage of medical records and remote monitoring of health progress. Medication delivery is built into the service, offering convenience and cost savings across the healthcare value chain.

Bayer Foundation backs Farmio with€25,000 to tackle food security. 

Ghanaian agritech venture Farmio Limited, founded by Anaporka Adazabra, has secured €25,000 in funding through the Bayer Foundation Women Entrepreneurs Award to scale its mission of building climate-resilient farming systems in Africa. 

The company combines smart engineering and agricultural science to design durable greenhouse systems capable of withstanding harsh climates. Its proprietary super app supports precision farming by enabling farmers to plan, finance, and monitor every stage of crop production using real-time data and analytics. Farmio also connects growers to reliable markets and offers training in nutrition-sensitive farming, helping farmers boost productivity and access better prices.

Standard Chartered Futuremakers Women in Tech Incubator backs 5 startups with $50,000 to scale their products

The Standard Chartered Futuremakers Women in Tech program, an initiative by Standard Chartered Bank has invested $50,000 in five women-led startups. The startups include Wobil Technologies, which manufactures agricultural machines; AgriEase, which produces solar-powered cashew nut processing systems ; LbH Farm, which operates a “Buy Now, Pay Later” platform for smallholder farmers to access inputs and machinery; GoGoPlus, a cloud-based platform enhancing efficiency in pharmaceutical supply chains; and WaxFarm, which converts plastic waste into low-cost organic fertilizer through waxworm-based recycling.

AgriCentric Ventures secures GHS200,000 as winner of the 2025 Fidelity Bank GreenTech Innovation Challenge.

AgriCentric Ventures has emerged winner of the 2025 Fidelity Bank Greentech Innovation Challenge (GTIC), receiving a cash prize of GHS 200,000 for its work in transforming cocoa waste into biofuel, skincare oils, and organic fertilizers. Peellnnova received GHS 100,000 for its innovation in transforming fruit waste into eco-friendly mosquito repellents, promoting healthier and more sustainable communities. Danny Machinery was awarded GHS 70,000 for developing machinery that empowers women in shea butter processing by enhancing speed and productivity.

B5 Plus gets $15 million debt funding to scale sustainable steel production.

Ghana’s largest steel manufacturer B5 Plus has secured a $15 million loan facility from Norfund, the Norwegian development finance institution. The loan will finance the refurbishment of a recently acquired steel plant in the Tema Freezone and the construction of a 16 MW solar power facility at B5 Plus’s Prampram site. The investment aims to modernize operations, boost efficiency, and integrate renewable energy into production efficiency. 

Product launch

BMONI debuts in Nigeria to transform digital finance across Africa.

Jørn Lyseggen, founder of Meltwater and MEST Africa, has unveiled his latest venture, BMONI, a digital finance platform designed to reshape how Africans save, pay, and manage wealth. Officially launched in Nigeria, BMONI aims to bridge the gap between traditional banking and modern digital finance through AI, biometrics, and stablecoin-backed multi-currency wallets.

The platform allows users to open USD and local currency accounts, save in dollars, and access both virtual and physical Mastercards accepted by over 100 million merchants worldwide. With a portfolio of 22 patented technologies, BMONI promises enhanced security through biometric authentication and advanced encryption.

Koa unveils the world’s first cocoa fruit shots.

Swiss-Ghanaian startup Koa has announced what it calls a global first — the launch of cocoa fruit shots made entirely from upcycled cocoa pulp. The innovation marks a new chapter for the company, which is redefining how the cocoa fruit is used beyond chocolate production. The new range, branded as Koa Pure, Koa Boost, and Koa Energize, is made from 100% natural ingredients and provides a natural source of vitamins and antioxidants. Each vegan shot contains no added sugar and delivers a full daily dose of Vitamin C.

The 12 most promising impact startups in Africa according to investors.

Each year the Norrsken Foundation highlights one hundred of the world’s most promising early-stage startups with the potential to solve some of humanity’s toughest challenges. The 2025 edition features 12 African startups nominated by 50 institutions including venture capital funds, universities and non-profits with the potential to become “impact unicorns” – a company capable of improving the lives of a billion people.
