Kosmos Innovation Center launches first full-scale agritech makerspace in Kumasi.

Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC) has opened a state-of-the-art makerspace in Ejisu, Kumasi, designed to help young founders build and test market-ready agricultural technologies. Supported by the Mastercard Foundation, the facility gives start-ups access to tools that are typically out of reach for early-stage teams—removing one of the biggest barriers to hardware and product development in the sector.

The center houses six specialized labs covering woodwork, metal fabrication, electronics, mechatronics, computer design, and food innovation. Founders can prototype everything from smart machinery and sensor-driven devices to packaging, food processing equipment, and durable farm tools. Equipment ranges from CNC mills, robotic arms, and 3D printers to bottling, sealing, dehydration, and nutritional testing machines.

Expansion

Rivia’s digital network reaches 52 hospital providers, transforming care for over 50,000 patients.

Rivia has rapidly expanded its digitally integrated network, connecting 52 hospitals across Ghana and impacting more than 50,000 patients. Since launching in 2024, Rivia has upgraded partner clinics with improved infrastructure, trained staff, and its RiviaOS management software. Clinics in the network have already tripled patient visits within eight months.

To increase accessibility of primary healthcare, Rivia has introduced the Health Access model as an alternative to traditional health insurance. Members pay a simple yearly subscription of around 50 dollars which unlocks 200 dollars worth of healthcare services across Rivia’s network of clinics. Unlike traditional insurance, there are no exclusions, co-pays or deductibles, and members can use their full balance for any service including consultations, lab tests and prescriptions.

Funding

Wahu Mobility pulls in additional investment from Sahara Impact Ventures to drive Africa’s clean transport revolution.

Wahu Mobility, the e-bike manufacturer, has secured an undisclosed investment from climate-focused venture firm Sahara Impact Ventures. The funding will accelerate Wahu’s mission to provide affordable, clean mobility alternatives while creating green and sustainable gig-economy job opportunities.

Recently Wahu Mobility achieved a major milestone as its electric bicycle programme received official authorization from the Governments of Ghana and Switzerland under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement. As part of its long term strategy the company plans to deploy more than 117,000 e-bikes across the country by 2030, replacing traditional fossil fuel two wheelers and delivering measurable emissions reductions that contribute to Ghana’s national climate commitments.

Product launch

SokoJob launches AI-powered job platform to help companies hire faster.

SokoJob has unveiled a new AI-driven recruitment platform to make hiring faster and more efficient for both job seekers and employers. SokoJob streamlines the hiring process by leveraging AI tools that make it easier and faster for both candidates and employers to find the right fit.

When job seekers sign up, the platform analyses their CVs and skills to build a clear profile of their strengths. Its resume helper also guides users on how to improve their CVs so they can present themselves better to employers. On the employer side, companies post roles with detailed requirements. SokoJob’s matching engine then compares these requirements with the profiles of candidates on the platform. Instead of manually sorting through applications, employers receive a shortlist of candidates whose skills and experience genuinely align with the role.

Because this process is automated and data-driven, the platform cuts out delays, reduces mismatches, and ensures that both sides get quick responses. The result is a smoother, faster, and more accurate hiring experience for everyone involved.

Research & policy

Roving agents prove effective for last-mile financial service delivery in Ghana, ISSER research finds.

New research backed by ISSER and ReFinD shows that a simple transport subsidy can dramatically improve rural financial access. In a randomized trial across seven districts, 156 mobile money agents received GH₵50 (USD 4.03) per trip to visit previously unserved communities for 12 weeks.

The results were remarkable: 15x more daily cash-ins, 447x more monthly cash-outs, and an average of 70 new customers per agent. One agent even opened the first permanent mobile money outlet in a community that had none.

The study highlights a clear insight—the demand in rural areas is strong, and when basic barriers like transport cost are removed, agents can profitably reach underserved customers. While challenges such as poor roads, liquidity issues, and weak coverage persist, the roving agent model offers a scalable blueprint for boosting financial inclusion across Ghana.
