AyaHQ, in partnership with blockchain platform Lisk, has selected 18 high-potential startups for Cohort 3.0 of the AyaHQ x Lisk Incubation Program. Emerging from a competitive pool of over 260 applicants, these ventures represent the next wave of African founders building onchain solutions for the global market.

Over the next 3.5 months, the founders will receive mentorship, ecosystem support, and access to up to $500,000 in investment.

Funding

CarePoint secures $3 million from JICA to expand its hospital infrastructure.

CarePoint, a technology-driven healthcare network, has secured $3 million in debt funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The company will use the capital to upgrade operations and expand services at its hospitals and clinics in Ghana and Nigeria, while fueling its strategic entry into the hospital business in Egypt.

Founded in 2017 by Sangu Delle, CarePoint operates a network of over 60 facilities across Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, and Egypt, leveraging technology to make patient-centered healthcare accessible to the masses.

First National Bank gets $20 million from British International Investment to boost MSME financing.

First National Bank Ghana has received a $20 million injection from British International Investment to ramp up financing for the country’s MSMEs. The five-year loan facility will enable the bank to provide small businesses with the long-term loans and working capital necessary to modernize operations and weather the current economic climate.

Talent

Yemaachi Biotech’s CEO Dr. Yaw Bediako joins Ashesi University as the Dean of Research and Innovation.

Ashesi University has appointed Dr. Yaw Bediako, the founder and CEO of Yemaachi Biotech, as its new Dean of Research and Innovation. In this role, he will provide strategic leadership to advance research initiatives, foster innovation across various academic disciplines, and strengthen partnerships that support Ashesi’s mission.

Under Dr. Bediako’s leadership, Ashesi aims to expand opportunities for faculty and student research, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and launch initiatives that translate knowledge into practical outcomes.

Ex-GCICC Chief Ruka Sanusi launches Decarbonomics Climate Advisors.

After nearly a decade defining Ghana’s climate innovation landscape at the helm of the Ghana Climate Innovation Center, Ruka Sanusi is making her next major move. Teaming up with the former Head of Corporate and Investor Relations at CAL Bank, Dzifa Amegashie, the duo has unveiled Decarbonomics, a dual-engine firm built to support Africa’s transition toward climate-responsive, and inclusive growth.

Decarbonomics operates as a specialist climate advisory, guiding governments, corporations, and SMEs to mitigate environmental risks and drive sustainable value. Beyond its advisory work, the firm’s Venture Accelerator collaborates with international donors to support the scaling of youth- and women-owned businesses committed to climate impact.

Suku Technologies CEO Tsonam Akpeloo joins Sports and Recreation Ministry Advisory Board.

Tsonam Cleanse Akpeloo, the CEO of Suku Technologies and Chairman of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) for Greater Accra, has been appointed to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Advisory Board. Known for his expertise in technology and youth development, Akpeloo is expected to leverage his background to provide guidance in youth development, governance, accountability and inclusive sports growth.

Partnerships

AfriSAF partners with the African Airlines Association to decarbonisation African aviation.

AfriSAF, the Ghana-based startup converting crop waste into clean jet fuel, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the African Airlines Association (AFRAA), the continent’s premier trade body representing over 45 airlines. The strategic partnership aims to fast-track the decarbonization of Africa’s aviation sector by building a robust local ecosystem for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The partnership aims to accelerate Africa’s sustainable aviation fuel  ecosystem by combining AFRAA’s policy influence with AfriSAF’s technical expertise. Together, they will shape SAF-enabling policies, build industry capacity through training, develop a pipeline of bankable SAF projects, mobilise funding from global finance partners, and establish traceable, sustainable feedstock supply chains aligned with international standards such as CORSIA and ReFuelEU.
