Seven fashion designers based in Ghana have been selected for the African Fashion Futures Incubator. The program designed by Impact Fund For African Creatives in collaboration with the African Fashion Foundation and Seedstars seeks to equip upcoming designers/brands with the necessary skills and resources.
The designers selected from Ghana include Travis Obeng-Casper (AJABENG), Jason Jermaine Asiedu (Jermaine Bleu), Kusi Kubi (PALM WINE IceCREAM), Kelvin Vincent (Anku Studio), Jafaru Larry, Nadia Eman Ibrahim (TABOu) and George Tetteh (Atto Tetteh). The seven others are from Nigeria (6) and Rwanda (1).
The companies will undergo a stringent 12-month programme to ensure they tick the critical boxes for investors. Companies will learn to create a brand founded on ethical principles and grow and flourish in Africa and internationally.
The incubator is an initiative of The African Fashion Foundation, a non-profit that invests in early-stage SMEs in the creative sector in Africa. Led by the United Nations Environment Program Goodwill Ambassador for the Creative Economy, Roberta Annan, the foundation has graduated over 24 alumni and dispersed over $1.3 million in grant funding. She co-founded IFFAC Investment Holdings, aimed at supporting and investing in Africa’s creative and lifestyle industries. Roberta is also the Founder of Frallain Group, a luxury accelerator based in New York aimed at pushing African brands. She is also the Co-founder of Semblance World, a new immersive virtual platform that aims to reimagine digital experiences for brands and consumers in the global fashion industry.
