Kofa Technologies, the mobility startup, has launched eight new public swap stations across Accra. The new station will enable electric motorcycle riders and battery users to swap depleted batteries for fully charged ones, eliminating the need to wait for the batteries to charge.

Kofa is tackling how people access clean and affordable energy in urban environments across Africa. The initial use cases include clean energy-powered electric motorcycles and stationary backup power needs.

Kofa’s swap stations are designed to be fast and convenient, providing electric motorcycle riders an easy and efficient way to keep their vehicles charged while minimizing downtime. With the new swap stations, riders can keep riding longer without worrying about running out of battery power or unstable fuel prices.

The company has already deployed its swap stations in key locations across Accra, making it easy for electric motorcycle riders to find a convenient place to swap their batteries. The eight new swap stations are in addition to the three existing ones, bringing the total number of stations to eleven.

Kofa currently aims to reach 10 million customers across Africa actively using its battery network, equivalent to offsetting 10 million tonnes of CO2 per year by displacing petrol. This would also deliver around $2 billion in annual customer savings as the battery network is cheaper than petrol.
